Tips For A Great Senior Portrait Session

Clothing:
In general, solid colors almost always photograph better than patterned clothing. We suggest having at least 1-2 outfits with solid colors. Please make sure that your clothes are ironed. Wrinkles will show in your photographs and cannot be retouched out. Bring socks and shoes to match each outfit. Most sessions contain a variety of poses from close-ups to full lengths.

Hair:
Please dry and style your hair before arriving at the studio. A different haircut, style or color is very risky and not recommended.

Eyeglasses:
Eyeglasses may cause reflections, distortion and shadows in your portraits. It is best to remove your lenses or borrow a pair of empty frames from your optometrist. If you are currently wearing braces and are due to have them removed some time during your senior year, it’s best to wait to schedule your photography appointment. Digital removal of braces is possible; however, it is costly and extends the time needed to produce your order.

Other Tips:
Limit your exposure to the sun at least a couple of days before your session. Too much sun will make your skin appear red, dry and unnatural. Your hands may show in quite a few of your photographs. It is important to make sure that your hands and nails are clean and trimmed. If you wear nail polish, make sure that your nails are well manicured and freshly painted to coordinate with your clothing.

Guys:
Five o’clock shadow will show up in your photographs and cannot be retouched out. A fresh shave is a must! Also, make sure that your shirts are the correct neck size, especially when wearing a tie. A shirt that is too big or too small photographs poorly.
